Paper 1 Section A Analyse the Close Study Product Score hair cream advert using narrative theory including Todorov. [9 marks] The Close Study Product, 'Score hair cream' uses narrative to promote and sell their product. This advert offers a new equilibrium to their male consumers. This is used as a marketing technique to make consumers believe that the product shown will increase attractiveness and therefore advance women's allurement to them. The centre image, used in the advert, suggests this. Focussing more on the central image, the man featured is positioned higher than the women surrounding him. The man is presented as a hero. The gun in this hand along with the tropical background connotes adventure and courageousness which adds on to the idea of the man being the main protagonist. The binary opposition between the dominant male and the submissive women is prominent within the advert. This representation of men works as a persuasion for males to purchase this product

This gives the magazine a more personal feel. The words under the title introduce the content and topics addressed. These words suggest that Oh Comely readers are creative and artistic, it also portrays their intelligence and their reluctance to conform to social standards. Oh Comely Industries case study - blog tasks Iceberg Press Iceberg magazine was set up by 3 friends and colleagues were working for one of the biggest publishing companies. They believed that there was a better way to create and publish magazines. Together they created a publishing company where the readers were as important as the advertisers and where audiences could relate to.  The Iceberg Press mission statement is to prioritise the audience, to make time for ideas and work with others to be at the best that they can possibly be.  Iceberg Press publish, both, The Simple Things and Oh Comely. Oh Comely  - Audience blog tasks Oh Comely was started by three friends at Oxford University around eight years ago. They wanted to create something opposite to the women's magazines seen on the market.  Oh Comely has a print circulation of around 10,000 copies The editor Alice Snape characterises the typical  Oh Comely  reader as being 18-35 year old that is creative and intelligent individuals that are inspired by other women. She also states that Oh Comely readers are educated and politically aware. The editor characterises the magazine's aesthetic as clean and minimal. This allows the words and artwork to shine. The editor also adds that they use natural portraits, with no Photoshop or editing, to accompany interviews. This gives consumers the audience pleasure of personal identity. It is not a news magazine and it doesn't include politics. This is shown by the front cover. Additionally, the San serif font gives a modern feel to the magazine.
